Life Update!

University

I did it, I did it…I DID IT!!!! If you heard a joyful sound coming from my home office a few weeks ago, that was me with a great cry of joy as I finished my last assignment, submitted it and therefore completed my University Degree. This is a journey I began in 1977, where I completed 3 years of undergraduate work and never finished. And then you know…LIFE! Fast forward to just under 3 years ago and I entered what was to be one of the most difficult phases of my adult life-To finish the degree thru’ the same University I began at all those years ago. I’ll say it again: “I did it!” (This is a business degree with the emphasis on Digital Marketing.) I will be flying to St. Paul, Minnesota in May to walk my graduation ceremony.

Watermelon Blue-My second, soon to be released book!

“Watermelon Blue – Re-thinking Your Relationship with Colour!” is a true passion project which I am thrilled to be releasing within the next few months. The excerpt below from Chapter 2 of the book, explains what it is—and what it isn’t.

From Chapter 2

EXPLORING A NEW PERSPECTIVE

Discovering a fresh perspective on colour can transform your creative practice, igniting new ideas and unlocking your full artistic potential. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just beginning your journey, embracing the power of colour can inspire and elevate your creations in unexpected ways.

What this book is

A guide to breaking free from traditional colour rules and reigniting your creative spirit through experimentation, using colour as a powerful tool for trans formation. This book encourages you to see colour not just as a design element, but as a way to tell stories, express emotions, and connect more deeply with yourself and the world around you. Whether you define yourself as an artist, designer, or someone simply looking to explore colour in new ways, Watermelon Blue invites you to step outside your comfort zone, embrace the unexpected, and discover the limitless potential of colour to inspire and uplift.

What this book is not

This book is not an in-depth study of theory, science, myths, or conventional colour psychology. There are countless excellent books and resources that explore the science and principles of colour, and while understanding the basics—like the colour wheel, harmony, and complementary schemes—can be helpful, those rules are just the beginning. Once you know the fundamentals, it’s time to break free, experiment, and discover your own creative path.

If following or learning the “rules” isn’t for you from the get-go and you’d rather jump right in, go for it! Either way, this book is here to inspire that journey, encouraging you to embrace freedom, creativity, and bold experimentation. Colour isn’t just about what you see—it’s a powerful tool for telling stories, expressing yourself, and connecting with the world in meaningful ways.

Who Is This Book For?

This book is for everyone—creatives and “non-creatives” alike—offering inspiration and practical guidance to anyone who works with or is inspired by colour. Whether you identify with one of the roles below or your unique form of creativity doesn’t appear, this book is for YOU! Grab a pen, add your title, and make it your own.

No matter how you express your creativity, Watermelon Blue is here to fuel your imagination and help you explore the limitless possibilities of colour.

Watermelon Blue-The Earring Collection

I’m working on a fabulous collection of earrings to be released along with the book, which will be called: “Watermelon Blue-The Earring Collection.” This is a limited-edition collection that is super colourful, happy, classy and extra vibrant. Stay tuned!

Back in my studio, my HAPPY PLACE!

My “happy place” always has been and always will be my jewellery studio. I have spent countless hours there, dreaming up new and interesting jewellery designs, combining gemstones, pearls, vintage & antique buttons and colours in new and interesting ways to charm and inspire my clients. In my studio I have listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts and books, had endless cups of tea and thrown thousands of sticks for my beautiful Ruby. I’m thrill to say I now have more time and energy to devote to the joy of creating!

Travel-Time to Pack the Bags!

And finally, after Covid and the intense dedication of finishing the University Degree, we are back to some travel! For me, has always been a blend of seeing new places, meeting new people, and looking for inspiration and unique materials for my jewellery creations. I honestly wondered if I would ever want to travel again, but I know the joy and fulfillment I get from it outweighs any hesitation. On the list is a week in Samoa, quick trip to Wellington New Zealand to see the Vivian Westwood jewellery & accessories exhibition and of course my trip to the USA in May for my graduation. Who knows after that, but the year is yet young!
